Schedule of Events

  • The race schedule (including times for check-in, captains’ meeting, marshalling and round one heats) will be posted on this website one-week prior to the Northeast Dragon Boat Challenge.
  • Teams should arrive two hours prior to their round one heat to allow time for set-up and check-in.
  • Racing will begin at 8:00 a.m.
  • A mandatory team captains’ meeting will be held prior to the start of racing (7 AM). During this meeting, team captains will be briefed on the rules of the event and have questions answered.
  • Teams will be expected to marshall 30 minutes prior to their scheduled races. Races will not be delayed for missing team members. Incomplete teams will either race with a short crew or forfeit the heat.
  • Event staff will break for lunch at noon. During this time teams are encouraged to visit the many vendors and sponsors who are supporting this event.
  • Medal ceremonies will be held at the completion of each division final.

Team Check-In

Team captains will be responsible for checking their team in at least one-hour prior to their first race at “Race Headquarters.” At check-in, team captains will provide their final team roster, confirm that all waivers have been signed, and receive their team members’ wristbands (required for racing).

Any and all crewmembers who have not signed an online waiver by race day, must hand in a signed waiver in paper form to Race Headquarters or they will not be allowed to race.

Team Captains’ Meeting

A mandatory team captains’ meeting will be held prior to the start of racing (7 AM). During this meeting, team captains will be briefed on the rules of the event and any questions will be answered.

Waivers

All participants in the festival must sign a waiver prior to getting in a dragon boat. It is the team captain’s responsibility to ensure that all waivers are signed before team members race.

Athletes’ Village

The Athletes’ Village at the North East Dragon Boat Challenge is an all-access area! Teams are encouraged to bring their own tents and chairs and set up on-site. Teams wishing to rent a tent, tables or chairs can do so by clicking on “shop” in the top right corner on the page.  The organizer will place teams in sites that will accommodate a 10’x10′ tent. Sorry, no grills or alcohol are allowed.

Marshalling

Marshalling will begin approximately 30 minutes prior to each race. Please listen for marshalling announcements throughout the day to ensure that your team is in the marshalling area on time. Races will not be delayed for missing team members. Incomplete teams will either race with a short crew or forfeit the heat.

Personal Flotation Devices (PFD)

PFDs will be provided and must be worn in practices and races. Sports teams and steers people only are allowed to use inflatable devices. A paddler with their own PFD may use it, so long as it is a USCG-approved life jacket. The marshalling official may reject any personal PFD.

Steersperson

The organizer will supply a race day steersperson for teams that need one. Please let the marshalling manager know if one is required for your team.

For teams with a designated steersperson, the organizer reserves the right to replace your steersperson if they are deemed incapable of handling your boat in a safe manner.

GPS

Crews are not allowed to bring GPS units onboard. You may have a speaker system if you wish.
